One member of the team of eight collapsed with exhaustion near the the finish line, which means that the record was not officially broken.<br />
The new world record is now  4 hours, xx minutes and xx secondsbeating the previous record which has stood for fifteen years.<br />

The Royal Marines completed the route around London starting at 4am.<br />
The world record marathon was run in conjunction with Commando 999, a fund raising charity for the Royal Marines Family.<br />
The previous world record was set in Luton in 1998.<br />
