Seven Royal Marines cross the finish line in The Mall, London, welcomed by their comrades from Commando 999, as they  unofficially break the World Record for the Military Marathon, 26.2 miles carrying 40 pounds of weight. One member of the team of eight collapsed with exhaustion near the the finish line, which means that the record was not officially broken.<br />
The new world record is now  4 hours, xx minutes and xx secondsbeating the previous record which has stood for fifteen years.<br />
<br />
The Royal Marines completed the route around London starting at 4am.<br />
The world record marathon was run in conjunction with Commando 999, a fund raising charity for the Royal Marines Family.<br />
The previous world record was set in Luton in 1998.<br />

The world record marathon was run in conjunction with Commando 999, a fund raising charity for the Royal Marines Family.<br />
The previous world record was set in Luton in 1998.<br />
